As far as I can tell, my mother had a pretty normal childhood in Satellite Beach. She went on to college, met by dad, worked several jobs to moderate success, had 3 sons, and is still married to my dad. At 18, I’m currently in my junior year at FSU studying actuarial science. I haven’t been sitting in the lap of luxury, but I’ve had enough financial and emotional backing to get me this far through a largely pleasant 18 years. With only the minimal scrapings of luck, I’m looking at at least 50 more - just as pleasant, if not better. My parents seem happy with the business they keep running, and my brothers are… well, weird, but a stone’s throw away from as successful as I’ve been. We’ve all lived good lives. To thank for this is my mother, who - in knowing she and her boyfriend would not have been able to care for it - aborted her unwanted pregnancy at… 18-ish? So thanks, mom. It looks to me like you did the right thing.
